  1. Prepare Mashed potatoes:
  2. Get 2 kg potatoes
  3. Make ready 1/2 cup milk

  14. Prepare 1 cup beef/ chicken broth
  15. Get 2 tablespoons tomato paste

  17. Take 4 cloves minced garlic
  18. Get 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  19. Make ready 1/4 cup dry red wine(optional)
  20. Prepare 1/4 cup sweet corn

The recipe has many variations, but the defining ingredients are ground red meat cooked in a gravy or sauce with onions, and topped with a layer of mashed potato before it is baked. Sometimes other vegetables are added to the filling, such as peas, sweetcorn. Spread the lamb mixture in an even layer on the bottom of an ovenproof casserole dish. Top with the mashed potato mixture and sprinkle with remaining grated cheese.

Steps to make Shepard's pie:
  1. Preheat oven to 200c
  2. Put potatoes in a sufuria with salted water and boil for 15 minutes or till tender but firm.
  3. In the meantime start on filling.
  4. Pour oil in hot pan then add mince meat,stir for a few minutes till it browns & broken into small pieces.
  5. Add onion, carrots,garlic, Worcestershire sauce, tomato puree, red wine, thyme, rosemary stir and let it cook for 4 minutes
  6. Add broth and cook for 3 more minutes. Add peas and corn stir a bit and remove from stove
  7. For the cooked potatoes: drain the water add butter, a bit of milk, salt and pepper to taste then mash. You can add a bit of milk if the consistency is too thick. Milk should be hot.
  8. If it looks okay(not too soft or hard) add the egg yolks and mash
  9. Scoop the cooked meat mix and place in a large oven safe dish.
  10. Spread the mash on top
  11. Use the bottom of a spoon to do so
  12. Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top. If unable to find in shops you can use VERY sharp cheddar.
  13. Poke the above in several places then place in preheated oven for 20 minutes.
  14. Once done let it rest for a few minutes and enjoy 😋
